DIRECTLY Support INDIVIDUAL Businesses & Tenants of railroad square

On May 10th, two tornados converged upon the Historic 1940’s Warehouse District turned Art District and WreaKED destruction upon the buildings and upturned the lives of approximately 100 businesses, tenants, and Artists.

Below we are sharing their individual messages and their ‘call-to-action’ on how you can consider SUPPORTING them directly as they rebuild their businesses and their lives.

RARE BIRD INTERIORS & TALQUIN TRADING CO.

In March, Jackie opened a second location for Rare Bird Interiors, located on E. 6th Avenue, in Midtown. “If we hadn't done that, then we would be left with nothing.”

Rare Bird Interiors opened at 122 E. 6th Ave in Midtown a couple of months ago.

The Midtown location wasn’t damaged in the storms, and has a larger showroom than the Railroad Square location. “Thank goodness for the Midtown location,” she said. “That’s going to be supporting our family entirely.”

Right now, they’re raising money for their businesses through a GoFundMe page, and the business is having a 15% off sale through Sunday at Rare Bird’s location in Midtown.

The Mickee Faust Club

The Mickee Faust Club has been a community theater for the weird (and wonderful) for more than 35 years, and we are determined to recover. We would welcome donations to assist toward that goal.

Able Artists Gallery

“Able Artists Gallery” was completely destroyed by the tornados, including the majority of the artwork that was on display, all of which was created by individuals with disabilities.

Many of our artists, who are already on fixed incomes and are facing multiple other challenges have experienced a tremendous loss, not only the artwork that was displayed at the gallery, but also damage to their personal homes and vehicles.

If you’d like to help our artists, any money donated between now and the end of the month will be sent directly to them. Allied Instructional Services, a corporate donor, will match every donation dollar for dollar up to $5000. Donations will be made to EnhanceAbility, which is a nonprofit 501C. Receipts will be sent for each donation. Please go to https://ableartists.org/donate to donate. Thank you for your consideration!

Cosmic Cat Comics & Renditions

For over 15 years “Cosmic Cat” has operated as an Art Space and Comics Store in Railroad Square. Due to the devastation, the comic bookstore will not reopen but we are working to keep the studio and art gallery. FEELING ART COLLECTIVE

The Feeling Art Collective has been a home for over 10 talented artists, providing a space where art classes and creativity have flourished for over 6 years. Recently, we faced a significant challenge that led to the loss of many years' worth of collected art supplies, tools, and essential studio/gallery equipment like easels, canvasses, paint and quality paper.

While we managed to rescue almost every piece of original art, the recovery process is daunting. Our immediate expenses focus on recovering these losses and covering the cost of storage for salvaged items that do not fit in our temporary, tiny, 275-square-foot space.

We deeply appreciate your consideration and support during this challenging time. We understand that many are in similar or even more difficult situations, which makes your support even more meaningful. Thank you for helping us continue to be a haven for creativity and community. PayPal.me/feelingartcollective or Venmo@Anna-Mcbride-70940.

THE OTHER SIDE VINTAGE

For the past 19 years, The Other Side Vintage has operated our family-owned retail shop in Railroad Square Art District. Due to the tornado damage, we were closed for 12 days. If you would like to help us, and our crew paid please Venmo @theothersidevintage or use the PayPal link below.

THE BESPOKE RABBIT

The Bespoke Rabbit had minimal losses compared to some others in Railroad Square. It can be hard to quantify the exact loss from something like this. We are currently setting up in our new location in The Art Garden at 636-3 Railroad Square. We hope to be open within a few weeks.

You can best support us by following us on instagram/facebook, visiting our new shop location and signing up for future classes, etc! Our link is Instagram.com/thebespokerabbit.

Micheal’s Sewing Machine Service

Hi, I’m Micheal, owner of Michael's Sewing Machine Service at 635-8 Railroad Square. I’m asking you to help see this tiny shop through the current closures after the devastating May 10 tornados.

On May 10, as many of you know, Railroad Square was devastated by the tornados that hit downtown Tallahassee. Shops are closed for the immediate future while we attempt to rebuild.

Your contribution, no matter how small can help ensure that I am able to continue through this temporary crisis and reopen the shop when the recovery efforts are complete at RRSQ. $5, $10 or $15 contributions from my current and future patrons will help keep my tiny shop alive.

When you contribute, keep the receipt and I will discount your next service or purchase by that amount. I'm not asking for handouts just help to keep my little shop in business. Thank you!

MPAC

Motivating People through Arts and Crafts, MPAC, was founded by a mother daughter team in 2020. The nonprofit supports everyone; primarily persons who are 14 years old and older on the Autism Spectrum, Neurodiverse, and with disabilities. MPAC provides art workshops and career development (entrepreneurship and employment skills). We offer an inclusive and nonjudgmental environment where Neurotypical and Neurodiverse persons can interact.

Donations to MPAC are an integral part of our goal to enhance art expression and career development with persons that are Neurodiverse. In doing this we enhance social development and professional growth.

MPAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and welcomes monetary donations. Monetary donations are used to fund the social skills and career development programs. Thank you for your support.

FAT CAT BOOKS

Fat Cat Books is a feline adoption center combined with a thrift bookstore and an eclectic boutique, all with a cat-tastic atmosphere! We are owned and operated by local nonprofit cat rescue, Feline Advocates of Leon County.

We were blessed to be unharmed during the storms. Though throughout closure, we lost potential revenue to help cover our vet bills, which did not slow down during the aftermath.
